    • 4 slices American cheese
    • 4 teaspoons butter

    • Toast the English muffin halves until golden brown. Spread 1 teaspoon of butter on each bottom half.

    • Cook the sausage over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side until browned and fully cooked. For homemade sausage, see notes below.

    • Lightly grease 4 egg rings and crack an egg into each ring over medium-low heat, season with salt and pepper. Break the yolks for a uniform texture if desired.

    • Add 1 tablespoon of water to the pan, cover, and cook for 2-3 minutes until set.
    • Place a slice of American cheese on each bottom muffin half.

    Notes

    Homemade Sausage Patties: Mix 1 pound ground pork, ground beef, ground turkey, or ground chicken, with 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon black pepper, ½ teaspoon sage, and a pinch of garlic powder. Shape into 4 patties and cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes per side.
