Flavor Variations of the Krusteaz Cornbread Recipe
Cheese. Adding some cheddar cheese is by far one of my favorite things to add to my cornbread. You can also add in jalapeños for a cheesy jalapeño cornbread.
Jalapeños. Wanting some spice? Add in jalapeños. I like to stir mine into the mix so that it is combined throughout the cornbread batter.
Corn. Because of course you can add fresh corn kernels into your cornbread. This will give it a delicious southern feel.

Is There a Difference Between Southern Cornbread and Northern Cornbread?
Yes! While cornbread is the base of the recipes, there are a few things that make them different:
Northern: Northern cornbread is a bit sweeter than the cornbread in the south. It will usually contain some kind of sugar, like molasses. Another difference is that cornbread in the north is a bit lighter and has a cake-like consistency. It is also made in a pan, like an 8x8 pan, instead of a cast iron skillet. This keeps the edges from becoming crispy.
Southern: Southern cornbread is more savory than sweet, unlike northern cornbread. Southern cornbread is usually made without adding extra sugar, is crumbly, flat, and has a crispy outside crust. The key to the crunchy crust is to use a cast iron skillet to cook your bread in. It is very common to add jalapeños or corn to the mix.

What Do I Serve with My Homemade Cornbread?
Cornbread is an amazing side dish to so many different savory dishes. Think of things like chili, soups, stews or as a delicious side for the holidays. Cornbread is really great at sopping up any leftovers in your bowl.
How Do I Store My Cornbread?
There are many ways to store leftover cornbread. You can cover it and put it on the counter for two days. Place it, covered, in the fridge for a week. It can also be frozen in an airtight container for up to three months.
When you take your cornbread out of the freezer, allow it to thaw at room temperature. You’re welcome to eat it at room temperature or place it in the oven at 350 degrees F until heated all the way through. You can also warm your bread in the microwave, but it will need to be cut into pieces so that it gets completely warm.
