What Is the Dunkin Donuts Matcha Latte?

The iced matcha latte from Dunkin Donuts is a sweet and refreshing drink that combines the earthy flavor of vibrant matcha with the comforting creaminess of a latte.

This bright green powder made from green tea leaves is mixed with milk, creating a velvety smooth texture and mouth feel.

The end result is a perfect pairing of sweetness and earthiness, providing a quite unique drinking experience.

Whether you're experienced or this is your first time, this Dunkin' iced matcha latte recipe is a great option to capture the essence of this popular Japanese tea in a delicious way.

    What Is Matcha?

If you've never had or even heard of matcha before, it is a fine powder that is derived from green tea leaves of only the highest quality.

It originally was used in Japanese ceremonies. Matcha drinks quickly became mainstream because of their combination of distinct flavors, energy boost effects, and high concentration of antioxidants and other health benefits.

It is consumed on its own as a tea but is also made into lattes, smoothies, icings, and ice creams.

Why You Need to Make This Copycat Recipe

Only 4 ingredients: matcha powder, hot water, milk, and ice. That's it.

Ready in 2 minutes: faster than waiting in the Dunkin drive-through line.

Completely customizable: use any milk you want: oat, almond, whole, or skim.

Save money: one bag of quality matcha makes at least 20 lattes for the price
    of two Dunkin drinks.

Better ingredients: Dunkin uses a pre-sweetened matcha blend. At home you
    control exactly what goes in.

ingredients for the dunkin donuts matcha latte
    • Aiya Matcha Zen Cafe Blend:  High-quality matcha is the most essential main ingredient to making this iced latte taste as good as it possibly can. Dunkin Donuts uses a pre-mixed matcha blend of good quality matcha powder and cane sugar, so we did something similar. We used the brand Aiya for the matcha in this recipe because it is known for its top-tier product of ceremonial grade matcha and comes pre-mixed and sweetened with cane sugar as well.
    • Hot Water: Hot or warm water is used to mix with the matcha powder to turn it into a liquid tea first before adding it to the milk. It's important to do this because the hot water will ensure that the powder dissolves fully and properly.
    • Milk: Dunkin' gives you the option of either skim milk or whole milk, but your choice of milk is entirely up to your own personal preference. Skim milk will remove excess calories but whole milk will provide a better texture and overall taste. You are also welcome to use any of the plant-based alternatives out there such as almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.
    • Ice Cubes: Despite using a little hot water to liquify the matcha powder, this is still an iced latte and iced lattes require ice cubes. Use larger ice cubes for a longer, more sustained chill or small, pebble ice cubes for a fun crunch with your drink.
    • Sweetener (Optional): If you do not use sweetened matcha, there is a chance the latte won't be sweet enough for you. You are welcome to add a teaspoon or two of sugar, or any other unflavored sweetener that you like such as stevia or erythritol. if you did want to use a flavored sweetener, honey, and maple syrup are very tasty with matcha.

How To Make This Dunkin Donuts Matcha Latte Recipe

Scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of the page for full step-by-step instructions.

    1. In a small bowl, pour in the matcha powder and hot filtered water and mix until they are combined. They have a specific Japanese bamboo whisk available for this exact task that's supposed to be better because the matcha whisk has many more prongs than a standard metal whisk does so it's better suited to prevent clumping. A handheld milk frother will do as well.
    2. Grab a tall glass and add the ice, cup of milk, and liquid matcha. Stir until it is well incorporated and enjoy!

    Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

    What matcha does Dunkin use?

Dunkin' uses a pre-sweetened matcha powder blend in their matcha lattes. It combines
matcha green tea powder with cane sugar, which is why their drinks have a consistent
sweetness level. This recipe uses Aiya Zen Cafe Blend which is also pre-sweetened,
making it the closest match to the Dunkin version.

What are the ingredients in a Dunkin matcha latte?

The Dunkin matcha latte is made with their sweetened matcha powder blend, milk
(whole or skim), and ice for the iced version. At home you can recreate it with
matcha powder, hot water to dissolve it, your choice of milk, and ice.

How does Dunkin make their matcha latte?

Dunkin dissolves their pre-sweetened matcha powder in water and then combines it
with cold milk and ice to make the iced version. This recipe follows the exact
same process: dissolve the matcha in hot water first, then pour over milk and ice.

How many calories are in a Dunkin copycat matcha latte?

A medium Dunkin iced matcha latte is about 250 calories with whole milk and 180
calories with skim milk. This homemade version comes in around 170 calories
depending on the milk you use.

Can I make this a blueberry matcha latte like Dunkin?

Yes! Add 1-2 tablespoons of blueberry syrup (store-bought or homemade) to the
glass before adding the milk and matcha. Stir gently to get that layered look.

What milk does Dunkin use in their matcha latte?

Dunkin offers whole milk and skim milk as their standard options, but also offers
oat milk as an upgrade. Any of these work great in this homemade version.

How To Store Your Iced Matcha Latte

To store your matcha latte, you'll want to start by removing the ice. You can do this by removing the ice with a spoon or pouring the drink through a sieve to catch the ice.

Removing the ice will ensure your latte stays full of flavor and doesn't get watered down.

Next, you will want to put your latte in an airtight container such as a mason jar, and store it in the fridge.

If your latte has dairy, you should only store it for up to 2 or 3 days. You could store it for longer if it has plant-based milk.

What to Serve with the Matcha Latte

There are a couple of delicious snacks you could pair with this tasty beverage:

    • Starbucks Coffee Cake
    • Baked Pumpkin Spice Donuts
    • These fluffy homemade pancakes
    • Jollibee Peach Mango Pies
    • And of course, donuts from Dunkin!

What Are the Benefits of Matcha?

There are several outstanding benefits for your body in consuming green tea matcha powder.

First and foremost, it is packed with a high number of antioxidants. Those specifically work to reduce inflammation in your body, help maintain healthy arteries, and promote cell repair.

My personal favorite one is the fact that unlike coffee, matcha doesn't give you that midday crash that we feel when we have coffee!
