This is a great recipe to bake and take for brunch parties, potlucks, and school bake sales.
This Starbucks version is a fun twist on a classic coffee cake recipe. While a classic coffee cake recipe has a buttery flavor and a sugary topping, this one adds a touch of icing on top.

Starbucks Coffee Cake Recipe Ingredients
For the coffee cake:
Butter: helps with keeping your cake together while keeping it nice and moist.
Sugar: not only adds sweetness to your cake but also keeps it from drying out.
Eggs: are added in to help the cake rise and remain moist.
Vanilla Extract: gives the coffee cake a warm flavor that pairs perfectly with the warm flavors in the cinnamon streusel.
All Purpose Flour: is added in as one of the main ingredients to your cake mix. I don't recommend switching up the flour, as it will change the consistency.
Baking Soda: helps create an airy texture to your cake due to the CO2 being released while baking.
Salt: enhances all of the flavors together and helps balance out the sweetness.
Sour Cream: helps keep your cake moist, fluffy, and tender.
For the cinnamon streusel:
Brown Sugar: is the perfect rich and sweet ingredient to mix with cinnamon. It also helps give your recipe that authentic streusel flavor.
Cinnamon: adds a sweet yet woody flavor to your mix. For a little change in flavor, you can add a dash of nutmeg.
Salt: helps with enhancing the flavors of the cinnamon and brown sugar.
All Purpose Flour: helps with binding the ingredients together while also keeping it a crumbly mixture.
Butter: is added to keep your streusel nice and crumbly. Be sure not to add too much, though, or it may make your topping a little too heavy.
For the icing: (optional)
Powdered Sugar: is the main ingredient in your vanilla frosting. I highly recommend using Trader Joe's powdered sugar because it has Arrow Root instead of Cornstarch and won't have that bad aftertaste!
Vanilla Extract: adds flavor to your frosting that pairs well with the warm flavors of the streusel.
Milk: is mixed with powdered sugar to create icing.

Is there coffee in a homemade coffee cake?
There is actually no coffee in the coffee cake! Coffee cake gets its name from often being paired with a delicious warm cup of coffee.
How should I serve this coffee cake?
This cake pairs well with many different foods, and you can enjoy it at any time of day! Serve it with a side of fruit for a fun snack, a warm cup of coffee for an afternoon pick-me-up, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delicious dessert.
How do I store leftover Starbucks Coffee Cake?
I recommend storing any leftovers in an airtight container for up to three or four days. You can also just place plastic wrap right on top of your 8x8 pan. You're welcome to put it in the fridge or place it on the counter at room temperature. I don't recommend freezing this recipe as the streusel will not thaw well.
