Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Turkey Provolone Sandwich
- Use Fresh Ingredients: Freshly sliced deli meat and cheese make a huge difference in this sandwich. The fresher the ingredients, the better the flavor. The best place to get your turkey breast and provolone is from the deli counter.
- Customize Your Bread: You can use soft baguette, artisan rolls, sourdough, or multigrain bread instead of ciabatta in your sandwich. Each type of bread will give the sandwich a different texture and taste, so feel free to experiment.
- Add Pickles: To make your food taste better, you can add pickles for more flavor and a little crunch.
- Slice Your Sandwich Right: For a clean, perfect cut, use a saw-toothed knife. This will stop the bread from getting squashed and make sure the layers stay in place.
Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ
Can I make this Turkey Sandwich in advance?
Yes! You can make this sandwich ahead of time and there are a few things that you can do to keep it from getting soggy. First, you can keep the condiments on the side and add them right before serving. You can also place the lettuce and tomato between the turkey and the cheese rather than directly against the bread. This keeps the bread from absorbing too much moisture. If you're meal prepping this recipe, wrap your sandwich in plastic wrap or foil and then place in the fridge until ready to eat.

Is there a gluten-free option?
You can easily make this recipe gluten-free by substituting the ciabatta with gluten-free bread. Multigrain and baguette-style bread are both great options. I recommend lightly toasting the bread. The rest of the ingredients are naturally gluten-free.
What other cheeses can I use instead of provolone?
There are a few other different cheeses that go well with this recipe. Swiss cheese adds a nutty flavor, while mozzarella has more of a mild creaminess. Sharp cheddar and pepper jack are great options if you want cheese with a stronger flavor. Feel free to switch things up! This is a great way to customize your sandwich.

What pairs well with this sandwich?
This sandwich pairs well with many different sides. You can pair it with a small salad with a lemon vinaigrette for a refreshing option. You can also pair it with a small cup of soup, like chicken noodle or cheddar broccoli, for a more filling option. If you're wanting something to quickly grab, you can pair it with potato chips or fruit salad.
Can I freeze this turkey pesto sandwich?
It's okay to freeze individual parts of the sandwich, but it's best not to freeze the whole assembled sandwich. Thawed bread can become soggy, and frozen vegetables, like lettuce and tomato, may not hold up as well. However, you can freeze turkey slices and provolone cheese to use later. When you're ready to make a sandwich, just defrost the turkey and cheese and put them together with fresh bread and produce.

How do I store leftover turkey provolone sandwich?
If you have leftovers, it's best to store them in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap. Keep your leftovers in the fridge for up to two days. However, keep in mind that your bread may lose some of its texture if left in the fridge for too long. If possible, try storing your ingredients separately and assembling your sandwich when ready to eat to avoid any soggy bread.

LZ says
This is for a cold sandwich, if you like that. However, Costco's sandwich was served hot, which makes a big difference and is significant to it's huge appeal. For this you need warm, open face with cheese on top, in the oven and then closed up hot. Bake these in the oven at 400 degrees for appx 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted. Turn the oven to broil, and keep and eye to let the cheese get a nice golden brown.
