What do I need to make this Almond Mocha Smoothie King recipe?

Almond Milk: is the main liquid ingredient in this recipe, which can determine how thick or thin your smoothie will be. If you’d like it a little runnier, use more milk; if you want it thicker, use less milk. You can also use low-fat or nonfat milk.

Espresso: is the best coffee related option for this recipe. A simple shot of espresso (cooled) or instant coffee is the best for mixing into this smoothie while keeping the perfect consistency.

Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: is very bitter on its own but combines well with the other ingredients and flavors in this recipe.

Almond Butter: adds a great amount of flavor to this recipe, as well as adding additional protein. You can also use peanut butter.

Chocolate Protein Powder: is ideal for making this smoothie a little more heavy on protein, which will keep your energy levels high throughout the day. Chocolate whey protein powder also gives your shake more flavor. You can also use a keto protein blend.

Banana: is very important to keep your smoothie thick and creamy. Be sure to use a frozen banana as a room-temperature banana will not blend the same.

Vanilla Greek Yogurt: helps give this smoothie the right consistency that we love in a smoothie. I like to use vanilla Greek yogurt, but you can use plain if that is all you can find. I’ve also tried banana Greek yogurt, and that works as well.

Vanilla Extract: gives the smoothie a little extra vanilla flavor and adds a bit of sweetness

Ice Cubes: allows your smoothie to stay nice and cold and, more importantly, frozen.

Unflavored Collagen: is an optional ingredient that not only adds protein but is great for your skin, bones, and muscles.

Honey: is optional but perfect for adding a little more sweetness to your smoothie. You can also use agave nectar or a small amount of maple syrup.

How do I make a Smoothie King Almond Mocha Smoothie?

    1. In a blender, add the almond milk, espresso or coffee, unsweetened cocoa powder, almond butter, vanilla yogurt, protein powder, banana, collagen, vanilla extract, and ice cubes and blend until smooth and creamy. If needed, you can adjust the consistency by adding more almond milk or ice cubes.
    2. Taste the smoothie and adjust the sweetness or cocoa flavor according to your preference by adding more honey or cocoa powder.
    3. Once blended to your liking, pour the almond mocha smoothie into a glass. If desired, you can top it with whipped cream and sprinkle a little cocoa powder or drizzle some chocolate syrup over the cream.

How can I make this a vegan almond mocha smoothie?

You can make this a vegan coffee mocha smoothie just by switching out a few ingredients.

Milk. While this recipe does call for unsweetened almond milk, you can use any kind of plant-based milk. Some of my favorite non-dairy milk options are almond, coconut milk, or oat milk.

Protein Powder. Be sure to use a vegan, organic plant-based protein powder. There are many different ones out there, but this one is a high-quality protein and my favorite. You can easily pick it up at Target.

Yogurt. Substitute your Greek vanilla yogurt for either almond, soy, or coconut yogurt in your vegan espresso mocha.

Collagen. This is another easy switch. Instead of using regular collagen, change it out for some vegan collagen.

Honey. Some vegans will eat honey, and some won’t. To solve this ongoing debate, feel free to use agave nectar, date syrup, or maple syrup.

    Can I use regular coffee?

I don’t recommend using regular coffee for this recipe because it will change the consistency of your smoothie. However, if you want to use coffee as a substitute for half the almond milk, you can; keep in mind your smoothie may be thinner than using espresso or instant coffee.

Pro Tip: If you’re using regular coffee, make sure that it is either cold brew coffee or room temperature coffee, or you will completely melt your smoothie.

    Can I use flavored coffee?

If you’d prefer to use cold coffee instead of a shot of espresso, there are many ways you can change the flavor of your coffee. You can turn this espresso high-protein almond mocha into a festive fall drink by only switching out a few ingredients. Add in some organic pumpkin coffee for a pumpkin coffee high protein smoothie. Use a seasonal spice blend with a little bit of peppermint for the perfect winter drink. You can also try out a coffee high protein vanilla smoothie by using vanilla iced coffee, vanilla protein, or vanilla syrup.

Can I use a premade protein shake?

Just like using regular coffee, you’re welcome to use a premade shake, however, it will change the consistency of your smoothie. The good thing about premade protein shakes is that they’re much thicker than coffee, so you don’t have to worry about your smoothie becoming way too thin.

Why should I use a frozen banana?

Using bananas that are frozen makes a huge difference when making a smoothie. Frozen bananas make your smoothie thick and creamy, while a room-temperature banana will leave your smoothie a little chunky and thin. If you freeze your banana when it’s riper, the sweeter it will be. This is great for when you don’t want to use any added sugar, only natural sweeteners, in your recipe.

Can this recipe be made ahead of time?

You can, but it’s not my favorite way to enjoy this smoothie. For the best quality, I recommend making this smoothie right before you plan on drinking it. But you can make it at night and then have it for breakfast. You may need to add a little splash of almond milk in the morning because it will get a little thicker overnight.
