Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar in your stand mixer bowl. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
1 ½ cups warm water, 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast, 2 tablespoons sugar
Add in the flour, olive oil, and salt and turn on the mixer on low speed with the kneading attachment on. Allow it to knead the dough until a soft dough comes together.
Punch the dough down then divide the dough into 16 pieces, roll each into 7-inch sticks, and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet.
Cover and let the breadsticks rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake at 400°F for 12-14 minutes until golden.
Garlic butter:
Mix melted butter with garlic powder and salt while the breadsticks are in the oven. Brush onto the hot breadsticks right after they come out of the oven.
