Air Fryer Panda Express Orange Chicken (Crispy Copycat Recipe)

Make crispy Panda Express orange chicken in the air fryer. It has a sweet and sticky sauce, crunchy chicken, ready in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients
 
 

For the Chicken:

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • Cooking spray or oil for the air fryer basket

For the Orange Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for cooking the sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 2/3 cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes adjust to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
  • Set up a breading station with two bowls: one with flour, salt, and cornstarch mixture, and one with beaten eggs.

  • Dip each piece of chicken into the flour, then the beaten eggs, and finally, coat them in the flour again. Repeat until all the chicken pieces are well-coated.
  • Lightly grease the air fryer basket or tray with cooking spray or oil. then place the breaded chicken into the air fryer basket making sure to keep it in a single layer and leaving enough space between them to allow for ample hot air circulation. Spray the chicken with an oil spray again.

  • Cook the chicken in the air fryer for about 10-12 minutes, flipping the pieces halfway through, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through with an internal temperature of 165°F.

While the chicken is cooking in the air fryer, prepare the orange sauce.

  • In a saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Whisk the orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, granulated sugar, cornstarch orange zest, and crushed red pepper flakes in a large measuring cup then pour it over the garlic-ginger mixture. Stir continuously until the sauce begins to simmer. Cook the sauce for about 2-3 minutes or until it thickens, stirring constantly.
    2/3 cup orange juice, 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce, 3 tablespoons rice vinegar, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoons cornstarch, 1 teaspoon grated orange zest, 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic, 1/2 teaspoon minced ginger, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for cooking the sauce, 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • Once the chicken is done in the air fryer, transfer it to a bowl, and pour the orange sauce over it. Gently toss the chicken to coat it evenly with the sauce.
  • Serve your air fryer orange chicken over steamed rice and garnish with sliced green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
